Description

We are an all Dwarf Garrison, but we are not a hard and fast chain of command military group. Garrisons require many types of folk to help them run smoothly, so the place you may find for yourself within won't necessarily be that of, say, a squad leader or standard bearer.

We have designed our backstory so there is room to grow and blanks that still need to be filled in. We want folks to feel that there is a spot where they can either work with what's already there and/or create something new that works within the skeleton to flesh out in their own way.

What matters most is that we have fun together, whether it's attending an Ales n' Tales, or are slaying orcs in the field.

Expectations

We stress quality over quantity. We'd rather have 20 Dwarf folk who all fit well within the framework over having 100 who feel completely alone because they all have divergent play styles and interests.

We are a mix of different minded folk. Some are most content marching ever towards the front lines. Others find their best service is given at a slower pace. Some even find a nice hall to reside in and spend most if not all of their time in that area. What binds us together are the basics listed above.

That said, if you have interest in joining Axes and Ales and haven't already been there, our site (aka Missives) has the basics laid out as far as how one progresses to make that happen. In the "Introductions of various natures" forum, one can glean a bit more about whether they might feel at home within our Garrison walls.

We do require that you apply to the Missives before you can be recruited in game. We recommend that you give us a shout in the intro section there so all of us can have an idea of who you are and what you're about as opposed to the one person you may have chatted with in game. If you have any queries, feel free to post them too.

These steps help us get to know you better. We all know what it's like tryig to find the right fit with a kin, so we are more than happy to start communication off on the right foot with actions like these.

History

The original inception of Axes and Ales was a Dwarf Garrison that contained members from all of the known branches of Durin's Folk. Sometime before the coming of the Second Age, something happened that caused the Garrison to cease to be the infamous Garrison that it once was. No more did their members sing out as they walked the paths of their kin territories. No more did the ale flow freely in their halls at one of their tradmark celebrations. No more did their standard show itself raised high in any battle of note involving the Dwarf folk. Yet despite this, their stories were retold around campfires and in taverns. There are a few theories floating around as to what really happened, but so far, no one has stepped forth to say for certain.

Otteric Wetwhiskers had heard of Axes and Ales and did more than just wonder what happened to a Garrison of such reknown. After finding a few others who also shared his interest in reviving the Garrison, they began to research what they could and inquire when they were able. Otteric, now the Father of the Third Age Rendition of the Axes and Ales Garrison, with the help of his three Seneschals; Dwaeyrn, Lilje and Portli did indeed discover the location of the original Garrison Hall for Axes and Ales. They were quite dismayed, however, when they first laid eyes on it, as it had not been upkept and needed considerable repairs. Why it had been allowed to fall into disrepair is a matter that is still being looked into, along with many other matters concerning whether any ceremonial, training procedure and record scrolls are still to be found

Thus it was the restoration was begun as it seemed the right thing to do symbolically. During the toil of masons and smiths, new discoveries and dead-ends were found, and lists were began as to whom should next be sought out to further the histories and swell the ranks of Axes and Ales.

As knowledge and names were gathered, the Garrison restoration of the building itself drew to a close, though it would be long before the history was righted as well. Otteric’s intention is to use what knowledge he has attained from the songs and epic poems about Axes and Ales, though they are still in the process of discerning the facts from the fiction to bring it back to its former glory. One night, deep within the comfort of the Blue Mountains, Otteric begins to pen a missive that he hopes will light a spark in the hearts of good Dwarves. His hand, though old, is still quite steady as he dips the quill in ink and begins to write, “The Garrison is only as strong as its members and it is up to you to help bring Axes and Ales out of the past and into today…”

It will be long into the night before he finishes his missive.
