Welcome, new recruits! The best of you have been singled out by the rigorous process of self-selection to kill and be killed for the glory of the Eye. Here's what you'll need to know to survive and prosper in a raiding environment.

Contents

Before you ever join a raid:

1. Get your Grams map

Map To Gramsfoot is a map that will take you home any time you want.

Take all the quests from Uglash, in the center of Gramsfoot. He wants you to scout or talk to people at the following places: Dar-Gazag, Lugzag, Grothum, Lumber Camp, Tol Ascarnen, and Tirith Rhaw and NOT die at all (either by NPC or Freep) before you get back to talk to him. You don't have to do all of them at one time but, if you die, you will fail all exploration quests you have in your log and must talk to him again to start the quest(s) over.

These quests often suck for greenies because when you're new, you don't know your way around and become an easy kill. But fear not, for there are many friendly creeps to help you with these. I'm not very friendly but I will gladly help if I'm not busy playing somewhere else. Message Redgash if you'd like an escort, or ask in OOC and you're likely to find help.

2. Turn on your voicechat

Every new character you make has this turned off by default. To turn it on:

Options -> Audio -> Voice Enabled (under Voice tab)

While you're in a raid:

1. Use Raid Assist

Every raid has at least one raid assist target or possibly two. To bring up the window that shows these:

Press O (Social Panel) -> Raid Tab -> Raid Assist Window Button

Follow these at all times. Don't pick your own targets out, even if your target is attacking you. Pay attention when the target assists are selecting new targets and switch with them as soon as possible.

2. Stay with the group

When travelling:

Stay with the group to avoid being an easy kill.

When fighting:

Stay in the back of the line. If you're melee, don't be the first melee in and don't be the last melee out. If you're a warleader, hang back and help heal until it's safer for you to go DPS.

3. You're not an invincible ninja pirate

Regardless of your class, if you're green or blue, you're not yet tough enough to handle focused fire. Freeps WILL target you because they know you'll go down quick.

When NPCs attack:

Hang back and kill the NPCs to keep them from swarming the healers. It's not glorious but you're helping the group out more this way.

When Freeps attack:

Don't run into the middle of them. Wait for the leader to give direction and timing. If you run out by yourself, you will die a horrible death and Freeps will recite emo elf poetry over your corpse.

The following diagram shows the right and wrong placements of your butt in a fight:

4. Don't roll a troll

At least until you're rank 4 or 5. If this is your first creep, you'll need to save all the DP you can get for your skills, corruptions, and traits. Plus, you don't get any infamy on a troll so get your easy ranks out of the way first before you start playing around on those.

If you DO decide to roll a troll, announce it in OOC and make yourself available should any raid need your assistance. If they don't need your assistance, you can get good practice playing a troll by running around and flipping hotspots. A troll is best when it's helping a raid, so if you're helping a raid out, coordinate your movements with one of their members in /tells.

Second Opinion:  Do NOT announce that you are rolling a troll in OOC. The freeps are known to have spies. Instead, set up a contact in a raid first.  Then coordinate through your contact. You should be able to get some surprise.
