Class: Champion

  • Class Difficulty: Basic
  • Role: Damage
  • Gameplay: Champions wade into battle swinging their weapons in all directions, dealing significant damage to many foes at once. With each strike their Fervour grows, allowing them to use even more potent skills. Special stances may be used to greatly increase damage dealt at the cost of defence or enhance defence at the cost of damage. In fellowships, a Champion concentrates on engaging as many foes as possible.
  • Lore: Unrelenting in battle, Champions are the consummate warriors. A Champion cares not for his own well-being, but relies on his strength and prowess to slay the Enemy before they can bring more destruction to Middle-earth.

This class is inspired by Gimli son of Glóin, whose skill in arms matched the bow-skills of Legolas.

Champion Tips

"Learn both 2h and 2 weapon styles, so you can use the best items you find at any level, at any time. Respect your limits. High level champs can do amazing things, but a level 20 champ who pulls 6 level 20 mobs is probably going to die. A level 20 champ who pulls 2 signature level 20s is probably going to die or be at great risk. You do not have the defenses, stats, class skills, crit chance, incoming healing (makes potions and stuff better), stuns, dps class traits, aoe skills, ..... on and on to do the cool stuff at the low and mid levels. It gets really cool in the mid 30s to mid 40s, so just take it easy for a few levels.."–forusrname
"Clobber is your friend. Learn to use it and use it often. " –Skigorn
"Melee Defense is your most important defensive stat, as it directly reduces incoming damage. Only your pocket item can have the +Melee Defense stat, so make sure you have a pocket item that boosts your melee defense by as much as possible " –Brushfire
"Watch your AOEs: you may be breaking mezzes repeatedly and jeopardizing your group's work " –RicardoFurriel
"Don't be afraid to put on a shield. Yes, we all love big or lots of numbers, but part of your class is about tanking. Learn to know how to do so when the situation comes up and calls for it. Champs are naturally high on the threat list, so if a Guard goes down, you're the next hunk of steel in line to help out, and Fervour is gonna get you killed. If you don't know how to use a shield effectively, you're not going to be the best Champ you can be." –Feybobiam
"Your role in a fellowship is to *maximize damage without drawing agro*. Champs who don't understand this and instead opt to "deal as much damage as possible and blame pulling agro on the Tank's threat management", aren't worth including in a fellowship. Instead, the Minstrel will burn more power, and the Tank isn't going to get threat back because they need to be attacked to use the proper threat building skills. Fellowship Morale and Power endurance is the key to long battles, so do your group a favor." –XrioT
Champs, possibly more than any class, have a "feel" to them with respect to their damage output balanced vs their survivability. " –Thane9
