This is for those who have either never played an MMO where Burglars/Thieves/Rogues are capable of handling multiple mobs at once, or just haven't had much experience with the classes.

What you will learn today: Don't be afraid if more than mob attacks you at once. You are a tricky SOB and getting yourself out of this situation might not be as hard as it looks.

Contents

Skills Needed

  • Cunning Attack  [Lv 1]
  • Disable [Lv 4]
  • Sneak [Lv 4]
  • Touch and Go [Lv 6]
  • Riddle [Lv 8] (Note: this will work on all species thanks to Isengard updates)
  • Aim [Lv 12]
  • Hide in Plain Sight [Lv 30]

How to

First Scenario

Lets say you are hunting some Goblins but you can only find them in small groups of two.

  1. Sneak, then gauge the situation.
  2. Move in behind the target you want to immobilize.
  3. Cast Riddle on said target.
  4. Select target two and quickly kill it, this can be accomplished more quickly by using Aim, which gaurantees a critical hit on the next move.
  5. Once target 2 is dead, switch back over to target 1 and finish the job.
  6. Congratulations, you are now a crowd controller.
Be careful of
  • Mobs breaking Riddle early.
  • Damaging the mob you Riddled. Any damage will break the spell.
  • Biting off more than you can chew. The reason we are Burglars is because we know how to assess a situation and attack it with knowledge. We aren't reckless like Champs and Guards as we fight with our brains. Higher level mobs will break early so make sure you aren't going after multiple oranges or yellows until you know how you fare against a single mob of this color.

Second Scenario

"Did I tell you about the time I attacked this guy and he called for his friend to help?"

With this scenario you do not have the benefit of surprise, and you have to quickly make a lot of decisions.

  1. In this scenario, make sure that the enemy you plan on killing first constantly has your DOT (Cunning Attack) applied as well as Disable.
  2. Target the second enemy and quickly Riddle him. Make sure you do not accidentally hit him afterwards and DO NOT apply Cunning Attack on this mob as the DOT [Damage over time] will break the stun.
  3. Select target one and quickly kill him/her.
  4. Once target 1 is dead, switch back over to target 2 and finish the job.
  5. Congratulations, you are now an advanced crowd controller.

  • Assessing the situation correctly. There is no honor in being dead so if you need to, run, catch your breath and get revenge. Assessing the situation isn't always about figuring out how to kill the targets, it is also about knowing when you wont make it out alive. Again, we Burglars think about this while Champs and Guards die in all their repair bill glory. Apparently they do not like money as much as we do.

Third Scenario

"What if Riddle is on cooldown or I get attacked by a creature that resists my Riddle?"

Well I am glad I asked this for you. Your ability to bounce back and forth between targets will save the day here. Also, know your cooldown times.

  1. In this scenario (2 enemies) come at you. Again quick assessment is needed. Start by placing Cunning Attack and Disable on target
  2. Target the second enemy and start by placing Cunning Attack on him/her.
  3. After a couple more quick attacks, Disable should be back up, place this on your current target which should be 2.
  4. After a couple more attacks, your Cunning Attack on target 1 will be wearing off. Switch targets and re-apply.
  5. Switch back to target 2 and attack being sure to re-apply Cunning Attack afterwards. If target 2 is less than half health then focus on him/her and finish the job. If not, continue the back and forth application of Cunning Attack.
  6. Once target 2 is dead, you can now target the first mob, which should be around half or less health. FINISH HIM!
  7. Congratulations, you are now an expert crowd controller.
Be careful of
  • Assessing the situation correctly. This is a dangerous situation, especially if the creatures are at your level and have decent armor. This method of handling a less than ideal situation can be chaotic, however, once you get the rhythm down it will be almost like dancing and can be fun.

End Notes

If you want to tackle a bigger challenge, go after groups of three humanoids and try combining scenarios 1 and 3. Again, this is a deadly dance that can be very fun and fulfilling once you get used to it. And remember, hitting Touch and Go (+50% evade rating) can give you enough leeway to finish off a mob and/or run away. Again, there is no honor in being dead; using Hide in Plain Sight and running for the shadows will save you money and time.
