The Mithril Guard were initially the escorts for mithril shipments between the Dwarven Realms in Middle-Earth. Their role was eventually broadened to any inter-realm caravan, basically the wardens of the roads linking together the Seven Realms and their outposts. As the dwarven golden age dwindled, so did the Mithril Guard.

Now that the Lonely Mountain is reclaimed and the Gates of Moria are reopened, hope is rekindled in the hearts of dwarves that wish to see the return of their times of glory. Some even want to see the Mithril Guard reinstated to make the toroughfares safe for dwarven commerce. As it so happens, dwarves and other Free People are joining together to make this a reality.
