Description

The Scions of Fortuna is a tight-knit group of friends who came to LotRO together in the Summer of 2007. The Kinship was originally called "The Moonbeam Syndicate." However, shortly after leadership was transferred from Lucita Moonbeam to Arietta Silvertongue, the Kinship was reborn as the Scions of Fortuna (Fortuna being a gaming site the players were all part of, and Scion being a tabletop RPG that the members all had partaken in).

Requirements

Originally being a small band of friends, many never sought membership in the Kinship. Those few who joined the Scions are typically members of the Fortuna gaming site that have come to LotRO (sometimes trying out the game on a short-term basis). Recently, starting with Thanili, the Scions have begun recruiting friends made from within LotRO itself, and plan to expand their Kinship even further.

In-Character History

Created by the flighty Elven Champion Lucita Moonbeam and her more grounded sister Xil, the Moonbeam Syndicate was generally a group of elves that Lucita created to keep herself from becoming bored with Middle-Earth and sailing west before "something amazing happens". Among the elves that joined this band were Jadzi Nightfire, Caldra Silverflame, Helegriel, Naurael, Antilliar Dawnbreaker and his sister Matilda.

After some time together, the elves happened upon the Woman Lieutenant Arietta Silvertongue, her assistant Alexiara Duskmantle, and her young twin daughters, Seijun and Darque. This group of bedraggled Women were present during the assault on Archet, though Arietta and her children had traveled from Rohan not soon before. At first, the Lieutenant was wary of the Elves, distrusting them due to Western superstitions. However, the efforts of the Hobbit Thistlebud Meadowpad (also present at the Archet attack) intervened to soothe mistrust between the Women and the Elves.

Eventually, Lucita grew bored with being the Leader. At this same time, Lucita grew bored with being a Champion. Lucita put aside her weapons to take up the path of the Minstrel, leaving the Kinship in the hands of the one who had the most leadership experience; Arietta. The Woman gave herself the title of Captain-General, and renamed the Kinship to be the Scions of Fortuna (after the lost legacy weapon of her forebears); dedicating the group to ridding Eriador of the taint of corruption.

(Note: Every member of the Scions of Fortuna, even those not noted here, have a military-style rank assigned by Captain-General Arietta Silvertongue. However, most members of the Kinship do not know their own rank, or indeed if they have any rank at all. They seem to understand that being addressed by Arietta with such a title is simply part of their leaders peculiarities. These ranks, while sharing names with PvMP ranks, do not denote any PvMP experience. Indeed, many members of the Scions do not participate in PvMP at all, and the titles are only for RP purposes.)
