What is an Expert Treasure Hunter?
|
Then Mr Baggins turned the handle and went in. The Took side had won. He suddenly felt he would go without bed and breakfast to be thought fierce. As for little fellow bobbing on the mat it almost made him really fierce. Many a time afterwards the Baggins part regretted what he did now, and he said to himself: “Bilbo, you were a fool; you walked right in and put your foot in it.” “Pardon me,” he said, "if I have overheard words that you were saying. I don’t pretend to understand what you are talking about, or your reference to burglars, but I think I am right in believing” (this is what he called being on his dignity) “that you think I am no good. I will show you. I have no signs on my door – it was painted a week ago – , and I am quite sure you have come to the wrong house. As soon as I saw your funny faces on the door-step, I had my doubts. But treat it as the right one. Tell me what you want done, and I will try it, if I have to walk from here to the East of East and fight the wild Were-worms in the Last Desert. I had a great-great-grand-uncle once, Bullroarer Took, and – “ “Yes, yes, but that was long ago,” said Gloin. “I was talking about you. And I assure you there is a mark on this door – the usual one in the trade, or used to be. Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable Reward, that’s how it is usually read. You can say Expert Treasure-hunter instead of Burglar if you like. Some of them do. It’s all the same to us." - From The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien |
An Expert Treasure-hunter is a burglar of great skill, cunning, and daring. Not just some street thug, simple pickpocket, or Highwayman who makes his living preying on hapless travelers. Expert Treasure-hunting is a noble and time honoured profession and a valuable addition to any fellowship. So much so that even Gandalf felt Thorin's expedition to reclaim his throne at Erebor would have met with disaster if a burglar wasn't included among their ranks.
Don't confuse Expert Treasure-hunters with any of the lower class professions that sometimes share the title burglar, it takes great knowledge, awareness, finesse, and a lot of luck to become a respected member of this profession. When you have an Expert Treasure Hunter in your fellowship, you are practically guaranteed success.
About Our Kinship
We are a friendly, casual, all burglar, light role-playing kinship of mature adventurers on the Landroval server. We accept any type of role-player (from non-RPer to heavy-RPer) as long as everyone gets along and accepts each other’s style of play.
To our knowledge, we were the first all Burglar kinship on any server in the game (the kinship was founded during open beta before the game was officially released to the public) and, as far as we know, we are currently the only all burglar kinship in existence (our kinship consists solely of burglars; no other classes are members of the kinship).
Why an all burglar kinship?
|
You are a light shadow flitting against the moon, only seen when you wish to be, a soft breeze on the night air, soon past. - Elmo Brown, Burglar Trainer |
The simple answer is that it is a unique and interesting take on LOTRO kinships. Only the burglar is versatile and adaptive enough to allow for only one class to create a successful kinship. This allows our kinship to do many things that other kinships may have trouble with, from completing difficult quests to exploring dangerous areas of Middle-Earth. With a experienced fellowship of burglars, all vital fellowship roles are covered, from healing to DPS to tanking, because only Burglars can mesmerize targets, debuff targets, stealth past obstacles, and trigger Fellowship Maneuvers at will that can replenish the entire party’s Morale and Power, defeat enemies with powerful direct damage and DoTs, and summon powerful Noble Spirits to aid us in our struggles.
In addition, this kinship has expertise in the Burglar class with some members being closed beta testers who spent several months studying the class before the game was released to the public. This added knowledge and experience helps our members understand their role in Middle-Earth.
Our Goals
Currently the goal is just to have fun in a mature, drama-free, light-RP environment, where our members can get together and swap stories of their treasure hunting skills, group together for quests (an all burglar group is fantastic), and just have fun. There are no expectations on leveling, endgame content, raiding, vocational requirements, or amount of time played per week.
Our Purpose
We are not the type of kinship with delusions of grandeur who thinks that their actions will change the face of Middle-Earth, just a bunch of fun loving Burglars who want to see what life has to offer. We are here to have a good time, learn about the class, help members with quests and teach each other how to be better Burglars.
Our Events
Currently the kinship is scheduling and conducting voluntary Fellowship Maneuvers training workshops where we teach kinship members, and other non-kinship players, what Fellowship Maneuvers are, how to prepare for them, how to contribute to them, what steps need to be followed to make Fellowship Maneuvers successful, and what the different colors mean. These workshops include Fellowship Maneuver practice where individual instructors group with trainees to trigger Conjunctions so that the trainees can gain valuable experience in a safe and controlled environment.

Joining The Expert Treasure Hunters

Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable Reward. - Typical Burglar advertisement Ah, the burglar, of course! Welcome! - Bilbo Baggins |
The Expert Treasure Hunters are currently recruiting mature, friendly players that enjoy playing together in a casual environment of light-RP in the world of Middle-Earth.
Requirements
To become a member of The Expert Treasure Hunters you must be a Burglar of at least level 15. We accept burglars of both Hobbits and the Race of Man .
Because this is a light-RP kinship, we do expect interested applicants to have an appropriate name for their character if they want to join the kinship. While it doesn't have to be "Lore Accurate" it should reflect some sort of believable name for a character living in a fantasy type setting, i.e. no names like xXspiderm@nXx, IkillU, Pwnz0r, StabbyMcStabU, etc. We feel that your character's name reflects both on you as a player and on your kinship, and players with inappropriate names can reflect badly on their kinship. Reputations are hard to repair once damaged.
Applying for Membership
Please apply for membership at our kinship's website. You must be a registered member of Guild Universe to apply.
Your request to join the website will be reviewed by an officer and is usually approved within 24 hours. Once your application has been approved an officer will contact you to be added to the kinship. When applying at our website please post your burglar's in-game name so we can contact you.
In addition, you my post a request for more information in our recruitment thread on the Landroval server forum.
If you've applied for membership on the website and been approved, and meet all of the in-game requirements, please contact one of our officers in game. It is difficult for us to contact you as the name you use on the Guild Universe site might be different than the one you are using in game.
Non-member Events
As of now, The Expert Treasure Hunters host and run a Fellowship Manuever Class open to all classes, to instruct those that are unfamilier with the FM's. They are normally announced on our [Thread] on the Landroval Forums.Game Information > Community > Kinships > All Kinships
