Discussion
One of the biggest problems we're facing here that our two communities (European and American) are separated and we need to coordinate our work if any bigger projects are to happen. (This is somehow supposed to solve that, you may have ideas about what to put on Lorebook, you can keep them for later) Another thing is that we in Europe can't really get hold of GMs (they don't seem to check their talk pages, at least they aren't responding to me).
Where and how to coordinate the work?
In my opinion a wiki itself is a good place to coordinate work on a wiki. Community portal works quite fine on Wikipedia. I don't think we need another "something" to gather on. But that's me.
Nonetheless what do you think: would an IRC channel be viable? There are time differences but 7 hours on average isn't that much to prevent us from real-time conversation. A really good thing would be google wave but that's still in development. Or do you have something else in mind? --Æled | (talk) 17:10, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not the best when it comes to Mediawiki edit, but I'll do what I can. Regarding coordination, I wonder, couldn't this page be it? We could simply create a new section with articles in need of improvement, when you start working on an article, you just add it there, and then we use the talk pages for each article for further coordination effort. I do not think we need new tools mainly because we're not that many editing the wiki (though I wouldn't be against a Community Portal where US and European players could finally talk together) --SteelskinMog (EU) 05:23, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think that something like this would be sufficient enough for us to coordinate, the time difference would probably make other means a bit rougher. I do have google wave and 25 invitations, so I certainly could pass that along if you all are interested in trying to communicate through that medium. I've heard it is quite good for collaboration. --Cretheridge 17:00, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm leaning towards either Google Wave (a little complex, but definitely a powerful tool) or a separate forum. Forums are nice because it's easy to manage topics by category/thread/etc. --Mines of Moria 17:53, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- I think Google Wave (If that is out yet?) or Groups would be best because it's easier to receive notification of communications, etc. --Cithryth 20:29, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'd personally prefer Google Wave. I currently have quite a bit of sites to keep track of, and if we could integrate into one of those it would help me quite a bit. I have plenty of invitations and know others who have some as well, if people need them. --Merric 20:41, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ah yes, upon further inspection, I have already been invited to Google Wave and I have 50 invites left available, so this is definitely possible. I'm just cithryth@googlewave.com if anyone wants to put me in their contacts. --Cithryth 20:53, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Here's my username (cretheridge@googlewave.com), if you need an invite feel free to contact me through my talk page --Cretheridge 21:18, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- I just made an account on there myself (iveryth@googlewave.com). I'm adding people as I see them, as well. --Veryth 22:49, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Looks like we're going with Google Wave (at least for now). If it doesn't work out, I have a forum installation that I'm not currently using, if it's wanted. My Wave email is [redacted] --Mines of Moria 23:50, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Here is a link to the Wave for those of you not yet 'in' it.--Cretheridge 04:02, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- I believe you have to added by one of the persons in the wave to contribute, if you send a message to someone who is in the wave they will be able to add you to it after adding you to their contacts.--Cretheridge 16:04, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- Alternatively, post your wave address here and we'll add you as we see you. That's what we've been doing so far. --Veryth 19:14, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hey if you want to add me to Google Wave, I'm steelskin@googlewave.com, tried to subscribe to the wave but couldn't SteelskinMog (EU) 18:05, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- My google wave is lotrelf8@googlewave.com. This is totally new ground for me but I would definitely like to help in any way that I can. --Narthalion

- I don't see much difference between Google Wave and a wiki, except that people usually post more quickly to Google Wave. Speed is, though, dependent on the user and using the Lorebook to communicate would better preserve discussions -- better allowing participants to join and preserving the goals and decisions in case one of the "primary editors" drops out. Banaticus -- talk to me • my contributions 04:56, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Preserved the wave with an application, here's a link to the public google doc for everyone else... https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1VOCgeCvg0ynEzkheRFHL-Rgcw1sx1P3Sm2U1hw0udiA It should auto update itself if any further changes occur before wave is taken down. --Cretheridge 02:48, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
(I know I should at least pretend there's something going on :)) Yeah for me this is enough, in the "original" thread someone mentioned google groups or something so I thought I put this up.
- That would be me that suggested the Google Group. I haven't tried one out before, though, so that would also be an experiment. I definitely think this should be migrated somewhere where it won't rely too heavily on the Lorebook resources, though. Any sort of forum site would do, but I do like Google for its collaborative abilities. I also don't know much about Google Wave or IRC, but I'm more than willing to try something for real-time communication. Adding this to my watch. --Veryth 03:48, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
In case of bigger attention in the future I'm definitely up for doing some kind of newbie guide to the Lorebook.--Æled | (talk) 17:06, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
---
I've found out that users are not being notified when someone writes on their Talk page (at least now I know they're not ignoring me on purpose :)), nor is there any way of telling if a page has a non-empty Talk (wikipedia is capable of these things). Given that people do not seem to be aware of the Talk thingy (and thus not checking it) at all it creates some communication difficulties. Can someone bug Duwis about this? (And tell him to check his Talk). --Æled | (talk) 12:01, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Just shot him a message for you. --Veryth 03:48, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hey Guys, you started up your project at a crazy time for the Community Team. But, we had been wanting to put something like this together. Patience and I are already brainstorming ways that we can help you. I am sure we will be able to work something out in the the near future. Thanks for all of your efforts! --Clover
- It's great that something about that might be fixed, because I'm fairly certain that I've posted about that well before this. :) Banaticus -- talk to me • my contributions 04:47, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

- I've never done a wiki before but I want to jump in on this as I feel there's alot of work to be done. Where is everyone else who works on it and can we get a team together again? Sorry if this is inserted incorrectly, I have alot to learn! <Finmicthalion>
Possible work
What you might be working on in the "meantime". Fell free to add anything you think should be worked on.
- Finished the Dwarf Introduction quests,
started work on the human/hobbit intro set.done.--Cretheridge 17:03, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Working on putting some of the basic guides I've written into the lorebook (
How do I use cosmetics[Complete], how to set up a custom ui, etc) --Cithryth 21:46, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Fix every quest that needs fixing
As proposed by Cretheridge, I think it's pretty self-explanatory.
- I, however, am but a humble dwarf stroking his beard and wondering what exactly needs to be 'fixed'. Might be something we can do on our side w/the import/export of data. Let you guys focus more on 'how-to' guides for quests. --Duwis (talk, contribs) 14:41, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I was curious about that as well and I checked out Cretheridge's contributions. It looks like there are a number of quests and NPCs that were missing objectives and quest involvement information, respectively. Check it out there. --Veryth 19:10, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Shard droppers
This I hope will be just a part of categorizing the entire Lorebook (mainly Monsters and Items). I have created a shard dropper template, it automatically categorizes the monster on the page this is put onto. As I don't know all the shard-droppers in game you can help me with this, simply find a monster that you know drops a shard (or mithril flake) and put {{Shard|type_of_shard}} on the page and that's it. type_of_shard is the type of shard (beryl, sapphire, ruby, adamant, mithril) A bit more detailed how-to is on the template page.--Æled | (talk) 17:06, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- I've seen a lot of charts on other forums regarding this one, but I've never gone after these mobs personally. --Cretheridge 22:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Corrections from the official entry
Made a template a while back to show when an official entry is wrong - like the +10 radiance on the cloak from the Grand Stairs (this was fixed later). Banaticus came up with the image, but I'm not opposed to having it changed if someone finds something they like better. - Snorii 15:58, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- I also have no objection to changing the image, it just has to be a free image. I think having an image is good, but the important thing is using the "What Links Here" special page on that template, to see which pages are linking to that template and thus which pages have been flagged. In this case, that's Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Correction :) Banaticus -- talk to me • my contributions 05:01, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Templates in General
I also made a template a while back that allowed for optional multi-header side-boxes, but I haven't been able to work out some kinks. It was part of my work on profession pages, but I wanted it to be usable on faction pages and the like as well. If we could streamline workable templates and figure out what they could be be used for, I think that could do nothing but help future efforts. --Veryth 03:48, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Using this template, on this page can someone tell me how the resource id numbers are found? I've been pulling hair out trying to find how the numbers would be calculated. Double posting this on Aeled's talk page :P --Cretheridge 01:29, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Scroll Contents
Another thing I've been working on is getting the contents of in-game scrolls (i.e.; Item:Widow Froghorn's Note) into the Lorebook. I think it's useful for anyone using quests for RP material, and it's certainly interesting to see the different writing-styles used by the NPCs in question. Unfortunately, some of the items haven't even been turning up pages for me, so I haven't been able to post all the text I've captured so far. --Veryth 03:48, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Just go ahead and make a new page that links back to the quest it corresponds to and add a link to the item on the quest page. --Cretheridge 17:00, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- It's not that the pages don't exist, they do but don't load. Like here - Item:Rotted Diary. Duwis said they're looking into this. --Æled | (talk) 17:52, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- I also ran into a page that performs similarly Item:Lost Leaf of Paper, shall we make a new section to list these?--Cretheridge 19:57, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

- I've done this with a few items/quests. The NPCs usually also have additional things to say other than just the quest objectives and I've been writing a lot of those down as well. I did that with all of the Volume 3 quests that have been released so far. For instance, see the Gallant as Elf-lords quest. I think it'll be easier if we just write them down ourselves. NPC chatter
Ok, let's try a little "project". I'd like to document what NPCs are talking about in the world. To keep it somewhat organized continue here. --Reniannen 14:10, 30 September 2010 (UTC) (it is me, Æled, but European login is not available atm.)
