Many players and 3rd party guides, mapping tools, etc. will often post precise 2-part coordinates to specify the location of something in the game world. This coordinate system is fairly simple to understand and apply to finding your way around in LOTRO.
- The first coordinate is the South-North axis. Higher numbers mean further South.
- The second coordinate is the West-East axis. Higher numbers mean further West.
Update: With the release of Volume II Book 7 The Leaves of Lorién, your location is shown directly beneath the mini map. The information below is still valid however.
You can see your own current coordinates with the ;loc alias, but you should be careful about using ;loc in your chat line, because you can unwittingly spam whatever channel you are currently in.
The simplest way to "ping" your own location repeatedly without bothering anyone else is to define a quickslot with an alias that will /tell the location to yourself, as follows:
- In your chat line, enter /alias ;myloc /tell [yourName] ;loc (be sure to replace [yourName] with your character's name). This creates an alias called ;myloc that you can manually type in your chat line to see your current location.
- In your chat line, enter /alias shortcut ;myloc 61 (replace the number 61 with whatever quickslot you want to place the ;myloc alias into). This creates a quickslot that you can use to easily trigger the ;myloc alias.
Example: If the coordinates for the place you are trying to find are 65.3, 34.2 and your current location is 68.7, 31.8, then you need to head in a North-West direction.
