'If you are willing, we need to collect this statue. You will find it in the goblin camps that now lie furthest east in ruins of Minas Eriol, across the bridge to the west. I fear the goblins may have already found it, so search any goblins you may slay there.
'When you have found the statue, return it to me.'
Hunulf directed you to seek out the greatest discovery made by the Eglain, a statue dredged from the swamps of the Lone-lands.
Note — This article describes the previous version of this quest and needs updating. The current version drops the Status of a Maiden from a slain goblin in Minas Eriol, for example, while rescuing Leofwenna during A Daring Rescue
Proceed up the steps from the warg area of the valley ruins, head around the large hill and north into the elite goblin ruins. The statue you are looking for is north and in the first room to the right (NOT in the large area with the steps heading up to the east, but you will be going there soon). Watch for adds from the side rooms as you work your way north.
Choose someone in your party to carry the statue. They won't be able to fight while they carry the statue. If you pause in this room too long, its goblins and the ones in the hallway will repop on you. As you work your way back into the hallway to head north, watch your timing for repops and move away from areas where they will add on your fights.
Once you have the statue, you need to head into the northern room and go up the steps to the east. There are more goblins than usual waiting to fight at the base of the steps and at the top. If you need to pause, try to get into a safe area in the northern room so that repops from the southern hallway don't add to your fights. Progress slowly but steadily, and stay together. Most importantly, don't stay where goblins you just cleared will add to your fights when they repop. From the circular platform at the top of the stairs, head directly east over the stone bridge. The NPC you need to speak to is just across that bridge. Once the NPC is spoken to by the one with the statue, everyone in the group gets credit for the quest. Note: If another group recently finished this quest, the NPC will be farther up the hill.
What makes this quest so difficult are the masses of goblins in that northern room at the steps and on the platform at the top. It helps to have a higher level tanker (such as a 25+ guardian) leading the way. It isn't unusual at this point to get 4 or more elite goblins attacking the party, which at this level is a very hard fight without a group that really knows how to work together.
Some groups attempt a blitz, where one or two PCs with high morale draw agro from all the goblins on the steps and on the platform at the top while everyone else charges up the steps to escort the carrier across the bridge. It's much more satifying to finish this quest the standard way, though. Just be aware that if you attempt a blitz, the carrier can't speak to the NPC until his agro meter is cleared (which means getting away from the goblins, or everyone who agroed them dies).
Super-duper secret spoiler alert
As I was poking around this area with a higher level character, I found a hole that I heard about that allows you to avoid fighting all the goblins at the steps and at the top. After you get the statue, head back out into the hallway and make your way into the SW room of the ruins. You'll find a broken section of wall that you can use to step outside the ruins (note that there are two holes in the wall - the first one you see isn't the one you want, keep going). From there you can work your way clockwise around the ruins with the statue and get to the bridge without encountering any more goblins!
Just make sure everyone in the party dismisses their pet before you jump out, otherwise you'll get a nasty surprise coming around the corner near the bridge.
