Book 14 Updates

Overview

Welcome to the Book 14 update of the Lorebook. This update contains a number of new updates and fixes to known issues. Where these issues are tied to specific community feedback the relevant thread is linked.

Bug Fixes

  • Crafting items now break down the crafted items by profession and use AJAX to fetch the items.
  • Thrown weapons now include their damage data.
  • Books VIII and IX now return results in the quest advanced search.
  • Forum Thread Generic trophies, e.g., Dusky Claw, are now properly categorized as trophies.
  • Forum Thread Amulet and other missing recipes are now properly categorized under Jeweller; based on community efforts, recipes now have extra categories listed (tier levels, etc.) in the official entries.
  • You can now do a monster advanced search based on species, e.g., what monsters are Aurochs.
  • User created pages no longer allow the noedit tag content to be modified.
  • Forum Thread The NPC search now returns results for stable masters.
  • Forum Thread The quest advanced search results no longer contain quests with blank titles.
  • Forum Thread Armour and weapon values now show up in tool tips.
  • Added "Monsters" to the advanced search menu.
  • The new menu system removes a bug where Firefox would not select the appropriate radio button (armour, weapon, etc.) in the advanced search form.
  • Forochel is now a option in the quest advanced search.
  • Forum Thread Deeds are now properly categorized by region.
  • To clear up confusion in the item advanced search, the "Pocket" checkbox now reads "Pocket (Baubles)".
  • Forum Thread To clear up confusion in the quest advanced search, the "None" checkbox now reads "Solo" and now returns results.
  • Certain items now show their duration value.
  • Forum Thread Fixed a display issue with official entries in Safari 3.
  • Nationality entries are now properly formatted.
  • Duplicate monster class tables have been removed.
  • Removed extra work done when fetching icons.
  • Certain NPCs that were found in a room in an inside location were not showing up on maps. We now find out what indoor location they are in and place that point on the map.
  • Deed pages now display the virtues they bestow on completion.
  • Forum Thread Crafted armour and other pieces of armour now have their proper armour values.
  • You can now find stacked items by their plural name in advanced search.
  • Excess whitespace is stripped from quest names to ensure proper sorting in search results
  • Fixed Lore mangled HTML issue.
  • Fixed issue with deed advanced search rows showing the wrong level value.
  • Fixed an issue where the SpecialPage was broken by the new AJAX framework.
  • Fixed an issue where certain NPC advanced search results were coming up with mangled links.
  • Fixed an issue with recipe advanced search returning "empty" rows.
  • Searching for monsters based on loot they drop now works as intended.
  • Searching for "Free People" quests works properly now.
  • Added "Cloak" checkbox for armour class advanced search.
  • Renamed NPC search label to indicate that the option is to show/not show the Google map.
  • Fixed issue where NPC advanced search was displaying the wrong search results in certain instances.
  • Fixed issue where quest advanced search was not filtering properly for "not instanced" quests.

New Features

  • Quest arcs! You can now see the full list of quests in an arc on one handy page along with a map of who bestows the quests.
  • Monster play and session classes have been added to the Lorebook. Additionally, the standard player classes are now categorized as "Free Peoples". You can browse all the class categories through the main menu (Character Attributes >> Classes).
  • Been trying to figure out how to get from South Bree to Combe? Wondering where exactly you can go to via a certain stable-master? Travel webs and travel routes are now available to help you sort this out! Browse all of them through the main menu (Places >> Travel Routes).
  • You now get a warning page in the in-game browser when clicking on an external link. It will warn you that you are about to leave the Lorebook to avoid confusion.

Feature Enhancements

  • Skills now have more details to better reflect what is seen in-game.
  • You can now find set items in the item advanced search.
  • Forum Thread You can now find items that grant stat bonuses in the item advanced search.
  • The results for a recipe advanced search now include the icons for the regular and critical success items they generate. Mouse over the icons for a tool tip full of information.
  • The Lorebook has a brand new menu system; gone are the days of having to scroll the window down to get to the items at the bottom of a long menu.
  • Tool tips are now fetched via the magic of AJAX; this will greatly speed up the display of certain pages like search results.
  • There is even more information for NPCs listed on our maps. All maps now display the territory and area the NPC is found in underneath the world coordinates.
  • The interactive Middle-Earth calendar is now accessible via the main menu (Times and Calendar >> The Ages of Arda).

Book 13 Updates

The Lorebook has been updated with new maps for Forochel plus updated game information through Book 13. We have also included a number of performance improvements to advanced search and item display pages.

The Lorebook has been updated with a new feature: Item effects! Our talented web developer Aylwyne has implemented this much-asked-for functionality. When viewing an item in the Lorebook, its effects (if any) are also displayed!

Preceeding the release of Book 11, the Lord of the Rings portal site, forums, and Lorebook received a facelift! They now share a consistent, more compact, and brighter look. In addition, the Lorebook was once again synchronized with the game data in anticipation of the Lord of the Rings' third major post-launch release, Defenders of Eriador.

Introducing Advanced Search!

Due to popular demand, we've added a new advanced search tool that can be used as an alternative to our keyword search feature. This tool allows you to search for items, quests, and more according to specific criteria.

The initial release of the tool includes the following search tabs:

  • Weapon - search by weapon type, name, level, quality, DPS, speed, and more
  • Armour - search by armour type, name, level, quality, armour value, and more
  • Quest - search by name, description, category, level, and more
  • Deed - search by name, description, category, level, and more
  • Trait - search by name, description, and category
  • NPC - search by name and type, and view the result on a LOTRO Google Map
  • Recipe - search by name, tier, profession, and more

We’re pleased to bring you a brand new LOTRO Lorebook feature – LOTRO Google maps! Use this feature to add detailed maps, plot quest paths, and mark locations in your Lorebook entries, or just explore the game from a bird’s eye perspective.

Update: with the latest release of the Lorebook, you can now add filled polygons and text labels to your custom maps. For more information, see the Editing Maps help page.
