What This Document is For
The purpose of this lovely guide is to do several important things for new players who are not sure where to go next and new non-VIPs who do no know what to buy next.
- Answer the common question "I am X lvl, which one do I get/go to next?"
- Show which quest packs, and their cost, are available for purchase.
- Give a brief overview of a pack's highlights.
Welcome Adventurers!!
If you are looking for general information about where you should go now that you have finished the intro and begun to explore then this guide will help. Or maybe you have just finished the Lone-Lands and you cannot choose between Trollshaws, Evendim, and the North Downs, this too shall be answered. Ered Luin
- Main City: Thorin's Hall
- Rep Group: Thorin's Hall
- Housing Districts: Falathlorn and Thorin's Hall
- Deed Difficulty:Minimal (very easy TP)
- Importance: Ered is the Elf and Dwarf starting area and it has the Metalsmith's and Weaponsmith's guilds.
Ered is the Elf and Dwarf starting area, so if you play one of those two races you will be seeing a lot of Luin. Since you just created that lovely new char of yours and finished that intro you should be about level 6. The first thing to do is start the Prologue (Look for the flaming quest ring). Since you are brand new to this game I suggest you grab all the quests you see and complete them while you do that Prologue, do not leave Ered Luin until that prologue is complete!! If you are a dwarf you will have started in Thorin's hall, while the Elves start south of Thorin's in Celondim. Your main goals while you are in Ered Luin are to reach lvl 16 and finish that prologue. Once you do that head on off to Bree to the place the Epic quest directs you. Do not worry about Thorin's Hall reputation because you will need to return when you reach level 42 or so to properly gain reputation.
The Shire
- Main City: Michael Delving
- Rep Group: The Mathom Society
- Housing Districts: The Shire Homesteads
- Deed Difficulty: Minimal though that slug deed was designed by sadists...
- Importance: The Shire is where all those lil'obbits start out!!
Yes that's right, that fat little hobbit char you just created is sitting in Little Delving, which is directly north of Michael Delving. As with Ered your main priority is getting that prologue done, but the Shire rep group can be started immediately with good success and you can easily reach level 18 in the Shire. This time however, instead of just blindly following the prologue you actually have to explore a little bit because the Shire has a much wider scope than Luin does.
Bree
- Main City: Bree Town (creative name eh?)
- Rep Group: Men of Bree (They give a warp to Bree skill!)
- Housing Districts: The Bree Homesteads
- Deed Difficulty: Minimal
- Importance: It's Bree.
Bree is the main lowbie hub of activity and RP, if your under lvl 54 or so and you want to hang out head to Bree. It's an excellent place to do just about everything (especially troll the chat and get GB groups). Bree has a massive variety of quests and locations from lvl 14-22. Be sure to stop by the Barrow Downs for Cheese, easy deeds, and lots of 17-22 quests. Not only does Bree have it's own prolouge, but it also contains Vol I Book I, which is the very first of your great epic quest!. There are many exploration deeds, and lots of neat people to find (Like Tom Bombadil) so be sure to take your time exploring. Once your lvl 22 and done exploring it's time to leave and head to the
Lone Lands
- Main City: Ost Guroth
- Rep Group: The Eglain
- Deed Difficulty: Minimal with one or two nasty ones.
- Importance: Contains Vol I BK 2.
- Instances: GA Barrows (3), GA Arbetoreum (3), Ga Fortress (6). All are lvl 32 and do not scale
LL can be reached by heading along the road from the South Bree gate. Just go along it until you reach the Forsaken Inn and start questing!. Be sure to do the epic while your there and pay a visit to Radaghast the Brown. Also, the orc & gob slayer deeds give the vital virtue Valour, and are easy to complete. You will also have many quests for three instances that unlock at level 32, GA: Barrows, GA: Arbetorium, and GA: Fortress. ALthough the instances unlock at lvl 32, I prefer to leave at lvl 30 for
Evendim
- Main City: The Island of Tinnuder
- Rep Group: The Rangers of Evendim
- Deed Difficulty: Moderate
- Importance: Contains multiple epic chapters, and is the single best way to go from 30-42.
- Instances: Ost Elendil (6), Glinghant (6), Haudh Valandil (6). All scale and unlock at lvl 40.
That's right, if you want to get to lvl 42 Evendim is the BEST way to do it, totally surpassing its competitors ND and Tshaws. It is also the first QP you must actually pay for, and it's worth it. The strategy for this map is simple, head North from the Shire into Oatbarton and just do EVERYTHING. The quests will move you across the map in an excellent lvling pattern, covering the whole map and most of the deed locations. It's also one of the most visually stunning QPs with the great Lake of Evendim (Lake Everswim xD). If you want to avoid Evendim you have one other option, buy Tshaws AND ND (You need both to get enough lvls). There are a massive amount of deeds here, and some rather unqiue quest mechanics.
Trollshaws
- Main City: Rivendell!!
- Rep Group: The Elves of Rivendell
- Deed difficulty: Annoying
- Importance: It has Rivendell in it, the whole Fellowship!! Several epic bks, and the Scholar's Guild (None of which require purchasing the QP to visit/use)
- Instances: None
None of the important things really require the QP to visit/use, and the Tshaws deeds are lesser in number and harder then Evendim deeds. Not only that but the quests are vastly fewer in number and inherintly harder. Since epics and rep groups don't require the QP there is really no reason to buy this QP unless you already have all the others and want it for virtue earning. That is the only reason I ever go there. It does not have enough quests to get a char from 30-42 so you must pair it with Evendim or
North Downs
- Main City: Esteldin
- Rep Group: Rangers of Esteldin
- Deed Difficulty: Moderate
- Importance: Contains the Tailor's, Woodworker's, and Jeweler's guilds
- Instances: Fornost (6) Does not scale and unlocks at lvl 39
The ND description is pretty much the same as Tshaws, but the quests are even harder and the land is not as special or visually stunning. I never quest there even though I have the QP. The Fornost instance is generally hated because of it's long duration, lack of important loot, and low non scaling loot.
So, however you did it you now are lvl 42 or so and are wondering where to go, well, you have 3 options (or 2). The solo method, and the group method. For the solo method head to
Forochel
- Main City: Suri-Kyla
- Rep Group: The Lossoth (They hate you so you start at Outsider instead of Neutral...but they also sell Polar Bear Cub amulet recipes for LMs!!!)
- Deed Difficulty: They take a long time, but are not hard and good farming spots can be found for most of them.
- Importance: Contains some epics and has totally stunning sky graphics at night. It is also the best solo way to go 42-50. AND MAMMOTHS!!!!!
- Instances: None
This QP functions just like Evendim. It's all solo and the quests do an excellent job of directing you around. If you want to solo your way through lvl 42-50 Forochel is the way to do it. It's also the best source of T5 metal (no wood though). Be sure to avoid getting your feet wet (literally) in Forochel.
Perhaps you prefer grouping your way to max lvl? Got a couple RL buddies you lvl with? Then you might want to try out
Angmar
- Main City: Aughaire and Gath Foriner (There are two)
- Rep Group: Council of the North and Eldgang
- Deed Difficulty: Ranges from Annoying to Hard
- Importance: Contains 6 epic bks and a MASSIVE amount of deeds (counting the related instances)
- Instances: Carn Dum (6), Urugarth (6), Barad Gularan (6), Rift (12). All are 50 and do not scale. They are also the source of the lvl 50 class quest items (Skirm marks is an alternative)
Angmar is almost entirely group content, and what is solo is considered "difficult" solo. It's the perfect place for a group of 3 or 4 ppl to lvl together. It also contains the class quest instances, and a massive amount of deeds (mostly inside the instances) and epics. It needs to be noted that you cannot acess the Eastern half of Angmar until you complete Vol I BK 6 Chap 6. This QP pairs very well with
Misty Mountains
- Main City: None
- Rep Group: None (but two key locations contains Riven rep)
- Deed Difficulty: Painful
- Importance: Contains Goblin Town, the best place to farm Riven rep and Vol I BK 4.
- Instances: Helegrod Spider Wing (12), Hele Giant Wing (12), Hele Drake Wing (12), Hele Dragon Wing (24). All scale and unlock at lvl 50.
Misty Mountains is half solo and half group and tends to pair well with Angmar. If you want to solo your way to 50 without Forochel the MM & Angmar combo is an excellent choice (I have done it on 2 chars). It's key location is Goblin Town, which is the underground city where gollum lived for a long time and Bilbo found the ring. You do not need the QP to visit or gather Riven rep though. After these three places you have to visit
Eregion
- Main City: None, but lots of minor ones.
- Rep Group: None
- Deed Difficulty: Moderate
- Importance: Contains the entrance to Moria and two vital instances
- Instances: School at Tham Mirdain (3), Library at Tham Mirdain (3). Both Unlock at lvl 50 and scale. These instances are crucial to getting your max lvl gear sets
Eregion is vital but not for the quests, I honestly never quest there, but they are for 47-50 (very small lvl window). The importance is the two instances Sch/Lib and the entrance to Moria found down in the lower right corner of the map at a camp like place called Echad Dunann. The instances have plenty of deeds, give skirm marks, and a good amount of xp, but they are not needed until your max lvl, so if you want to save your TP for the next QP and come back later for Eregion that works just fine. The next QP is of course
Moria
(QP not Xpac)
- Main City: The whole thing is a city, but the 21st Hall is the main hub.
- Rep Group: Iron Garrison Miners and Iron Garrison Guards.
- Deed Difficulty: Goes from moderate to brutal.
- Importance: To much to mention, lets just say you need it and leave it at that.
- Instances: One lvl 54 (6), One lvl 56 (6), Five lvl 60 (6) Two lvl 60 (12). None scale, all two have virtue giving deeds.
You need it, you want it, go get it. This place is so big I really cannot even sum it up. It has fellow quests, small group quests, solo quests, tons and tons of deeds, even 3 legendary traits come from Moria. The description literally says it has over 350 quests. The deeds unlock at lvl 50, so I head in at that lvl and I prefer to leave at lvl 57, but you can go farther. After Moria comes
Lothlorien
- Main City: Caras Galadhon (You must have Friend rep lvl to enter)
- Rep Group: Elves of Lorien
- Deed Difficulty: Moderate, there is also a hidden deed for doing all the deeds!
- Importance: Has the fellowship in it, The Lord and Lady, Haldir, and lots of special recipes and things.
- Instances: Two lvl 60 (3) 1 lvl 60 (6) Dar Nabardug (12) None Scale. All have deeds but no virtues.
This is my favorite QP. It's also pretty simple, once you get out of Moria and your walking along the road you will pass a bunch of orcs, some Dwarves, and some Elves. Once you pass the Elves you get shot dead. The reason? You must have rep to enter the woods! So go back to those Dwarves and Elves (not the orcs) and get all the quests and do them for rep (Now go back to the orcs). Once your in the wood, repeat process so you can enter then city. Once you enter the city repeat process for deeds and xp. Once your done being in Lorien find a dude at the docks named Balagail or something like that. He has an epic quest, follow the instructions and you will arrive in
Mirkwood
- Main City: Thanguilhad and Ost Galadh
- Rep Group: The Malledhrim
- Deed Difficulty: Moderate
- Importance: Contains the last part of Vol II, which has several unlockable skirms in it (free once you reach the right part of the epic)
- Instances: Three 3-mans, Sammath Gaul (6) and Barad Guldor (12). All are 65
When you first land you will not actually be in Mirk, but a staging area, much like the Moria start. So just do all the quests to get out of the stage and into the actual QP. Once you are out you can choose to follow the epic quests (which move you across the top half of the map) or the normal quests, which take you everywhere. I prefer doing the whole thing because I like Mirk, but if you just want to get to 65 asap and start doing stuff with your kinnies I would suggest just following the epic and doing the normal quests you run into along the way (Epic passes over two Mirk quest hubs.
Enedwaith
- Main City: Harndirion and Lhanuch
- Rep Group: Algraig and The Grey Company
- Deed Difficulty: Hard
- Importance: Contains Vol III and the start of the RoI stuff.
- Instances: Stoneheight (3), North Cotten Farms (3), Sari Surma Glacier (6), Lost Temple (6), Ost Dunhoth (12). All 65
You may be thinking "what is the use of a quest pack that is all 65?" Well that is pretty simple, Story, story, more story, and deeds. There is a massive amount of story in Enedwaith (origin of hobbits for example) and to see it all you need the qp. Not interested in that or the instances? Then no need to get the qp. Naturally since it's all about the story you need to do all the quests......
Farewell
Well, that is the end of our chat! I hope this helped answer some questions you had. Now venture forth! May the stars guide you and the wind be ever in your sails.
