[edit] Description

Agamaran looks like he is only in his early fourties. His skin is still smooth but his face has a sullen and experienced look to it. His gray eyes are cold and uninviting and his complacent expression usually brings strangers to the conclusion that he is an unruly person and one not to be crossed with. He is highly hygienic, usually shaving his face clean-cut with nothing but a well-kept goatee. He also usually wears his hair short, although small patches of gray can be seen within his goatee and his hair. He stands at six-foot-one; not a looming height, but a height that commands a certain air of challenge. His build is mild and is not noticeable and is usually hidden well among the robes he wears. He holds an educated accent, one that might hint of a certain nobility, but the tone in his words can only be described well enough with a certain air of arrogance.

[edit] Biography

Agamaran was born in Dol Amroth under the House Atreidhes on Ivanneth 4 (August 25), TA 2944. He was born a twin to a brother named Menalaos. The two in their youth were first inseparable, but as the years went by, and as their father played more on favorites with Agamaran, a resentment between the two grew larger and larger. When they both came of age, their father decided their duties for them, as it is customary for the Dunedain Men when they reach of age. Agamaran was sent to the Rangers of Ithilien to be trained in the ways of a ranger, while Menalaos was sent to be trained as a Knight of Dol Amroth--both honorable positions to serve Gondor well. However, Menalaos's arrogance led him to be transferred to Minas Tirith as a Guardian of the White Citadel after Finduilas had died. Agamaran, however, succeeded in his training and led to the further separation between the brothers until Agamaran's untimely first orders to be transfered to Mirkwood to combat the growing threat of Dol Guldur in TA 2984.

He arrived in the realm of Thranduil on the day of an elvish wedding. Agamaran was so captured by the wedding flutes that he felt as if he were in another world. His eyes fell upon an elf-maiden of great beauty with dark, obsidian hair and emerald-green eyes with fair skin. He immediately fell entranced to this elf-maiden, who he would later find out that her name was Breithamariel and that she was sought after an elf seeking her love and a father who approved of that elf, yet she did not. What first became a battle of wit and words later turned into a forbidden love. Agamaran's duties as a Ranger detailed only scout work and gave him much time to spend with Breithamariel when they had the time, until close to a year since they first met did another elf-maiden find out the forbidden love between them without their notice. Instead of telling the respective authorities that would be, this elf-maiden informed the elf that sought to marry Breithamariel, who was so further enraged that he vowed to "cleanse the wood" of the "filth of Man." One night, when the secret lovers met, Breithamariel's jealous would-be love waited in secrecy among the trees, bow and arrow in hand. When he notched an arrow and let it fly loose at Agamaran, Breithamariel anticipated the pull and put herself in the arrow's trajectory, taking the fatal wound.

The following day it was discovered of what had transpired, and with the death of Breithamariel, her father persisted to Thranduil to exile Agamaran. At the behest of many other elves, he did so. The Rangers of Ithilien were also equally disgusted with Agamaran's secrecy and transferred him to Eriador in the care of the Rangers of Esteldin in TA 2985. Arriving in Esteldin distraught with grief, he spent the next many years of his life coming to terms with what had happened, and was eventually molded into a warrior. He was charged unto Faithful Company headed off by Captain Haydyn Sylvanus in TA3017. There he proved his worth side-by-side with his Captain, following him into the heat of battle and slaying many foes. Eventually their ranks grew and Agamaran was appointed his second-in-command.

A month went by as a growing whisper of the agents of Mordor were supposedly tracking the movements of rangers and planning to capture and drive them out of Eriador to remove the biggest threat to the Witch-King of Angmar's plans to conquer Eriador under Mordor's banner. Agamaran grew more disdainful in his actions to interrogate possible agents, knowing that if he was going to make any progress he must start with those at the bottom of the pecking order and then lead his way up. It eventually came to an incident involving a Woman that had been following Agamaran for quite some time. Under the company of others, they cornered her and interrogated her for information, until such a time when others under suspicion also showed up. A short altercation broke out, but none were seriously hurt, and was eventually broken up. However, the damage had been dealt and the security to Faithful Company had been dealt. Captain Sylvanus's punishment for not keeping his second-in-command in check was his exile, to which Captainship was then transfered to Agamaran.

Faithful Company did not survive long under Agamaran. Long had it been whispered among the few ranks that there was an informant among them. Haydyn himself was rumored to be dead and the fingers were being pointed at Agamaran, believing that his interrogation methods were intentional to the effect of removing Haydyn from his position. Another rumor circulated that Agamaran had also been behind the attempted kidnappings of Anthea as well. One by one the listings of the company vanished, never to be seen again, until a select few remained. Conveying to a secret meaning, they were ambushed, to which Agamaran ordered them into hiding. Agamaran himself retreated into the Old Forest, where he remained there for a many number of months, contemplating what had happened. He did not resurface until he was sure those that followed him had given up pursuit. Wearied by the transgressions that has transpired, he exited from the Old Forest a changed man--his hair and beard had grown thick and full and his hair had grayed considerably.

He learned later on that Haydyn was not dead and the only other survivors of his Company were Kennedy and Alerieth. It was also discovered that a man by the name of Daradir was behind the allegations against his name, whom Haydyn himself eventually slew. While Agamaran and Haydyn did meet once more, he was still unsure of himself. While Haydyn presented a position to follow under his command under a company not tied to the Rangers of Esteldin, Agamaran said he would first consider the idea. Later he met with those of his company in Rivendell, where one brought up the allegations once against his name. Scorned and hurt, Agamaran left Rivendell and turned his attention to Evendim. Evendim had, after all, captivated his attention with a sense of guilt and pride for the fallen kingdom of the North. He soon took out much of his anger on the would-be tomb-robbers that pick apart the ruined carcass of Rantost, spending many a night and day slaying scores of tomb-robbers in secrecy. One night when he returned to the island of Tinnudir with a bundle of sashes in hand, he was completely bloodied. As such, he was dubbed as the Red Ranger by the Wardens of Annuminas for his bravery. The subsequent defeat of many prevalent tomb-robber leaders and the eventual beating of Basil Gummidge rewarded Agamaran to be recognized as one of the Warden's kin and was rewarded with one of their steeds. Redeemed, he returned to Haydyn, clean-shaven and hair once again cut, with robes of red stitched by the Wardens, to agree to serve under him once more.

Unfortunately the new banner in which Haydyn rallied under did not last. Many of the new band left without much word, discouraging Haydyn to leave the care to the company to a Dwarf by the name of Ulfdinn. Knowing how hard it is to be given leadership when not asked for it, Agamaran continued to stay by Ulfdinn's side before the untimely decision to disband. Both the Dwarf and he parted ways. In the following days Agamaran saw to serve the Free Peoples the best by meeting the enemy head on in the Ettenmoors where vicious battle rages on every day tooth and nail for the ground there. In the few days there he slew many a foe and gained the rank of Sergeant of the Guard.

A fellow ranger eventually spotted him on the battlefield, laying claim that the Rangers of Esteldin had thought him dead. He personally saw to Agamaran's return and judgment at Esteldin, where after telling Halbarad of his plight and story, he was given the mercy of leaving with his life, but a ranger he was no more. He was told to leave and seek to rally under another banner as Agamaran's incompetence would not see him to another task under Halbarad. With him left Arcturos, a young man Agamaran and the other Rangers of Esteldin helped raise after the subsequent death of his parents as a child. They made their way to the Bree-Land Homesteads to purchase a safe house, to which Arcturos would care for while Agamaran was away.

One day Agamaran met a group of companions in need of help. Offering his services, he would later find out that these fellows were of the Red Arrows, a symbolic company of friends sending out hope to those in need, as it were to the legend of the Red Arrow itself. Curious, and automatically assuming their company has true intentions as they were allowed into Glan Vraig, he aided them in any way he can until such a time in which he was asked to join their company, which he most expeditiously accepted.

Upon his time with a new company, Agamaran returned to Evendim, a place where he was finally accepted amongst his people in a far away land. Training amongst the Dunedain there, he was eventually asked to give himself to the cause at Echad Garthadir in the sunken city of Annuminas. There he spent many a day aiding the Dunedain in any way he can, collecting hidden supplies, freeing captured prisoners at the docks, and thinning the numbers of the Angmarim. His noble deeds in slaying many by himself earned him a title amongst the Rangers in Echad Garthadir: Agamaran the Merciful.

News came to Calenglad, who then personally asked Agamaran to become a scout for the Rangers at Tinnudir. His station was to be the Cirith Rhiw pass into the lands of Forochel, where talk of strangers passing through into the land have been heard. To pass the time, Agamaran would hunt the bandits around Cirith Rhiw, thinning their numbers, striking fear into them. On other days, Agamaran noted who passed through the gates, questioning and providing advice for the difficult trek ahead.

At one point in time Agamaran came across a fellow Red Arrow who was making the trek into Forochel. Not wishing to give away his duty, he hid in secret and followed him into Forochel, uncharted and unfamiliar territory. Discovering the intentions were true and noble, and that an expedition was to be made with other fellow Red Arrows into Forochel, Agamaran accepted to join the company in the quest for a Dwarf's plight over something dear and lost. However, it came to be known that the object of the Dwarf's affection was already lost, thusly returning to his home in the Iron Hills. Agamaran has since then returned to his watch over Cirith Rhiw.

After a certain amount of time, Agamaran returned to his home, only to find an invitation to a party celebrating the eventual marriage of two kinsmen of his: Rinann and Alastaire. At first Agamaran was hesitant to join the festivities, but was later then enticed by memories of marriage in the time he spent in Mirkwood. There he was welcomed by his kinsmen, whom he had not seen for quite some time, and stayed until the twilight hours, playing songs he had not played in many a year. After helping the proprietor of the inn, Desmira, where the festivities were held, with a problem with her leg, he went again back on his way to Cirith Rhiw, planning to return in a week to see if Desmira's leg had made any progress in healing.

After eventually making the journey back, Agamaran confided in her his secrets, feeling a certain air about her that made her trust-worthy--and Agamaran largely had no one to talk to and made use of the time he had at her local tavern that she owned in the neighborhood known as the Broken Cask. An unsteady friendship soon brokered between the two of them before Agamaran left once again for a respite in feelings for Breithamariel. He rushed back in time to Celondim to arrive for Alastaire and Rinann's wedding, afterwards at the party he drank much and loosened up, even going as far as dancing lavishly and revealing to Galthien, an elf, and Desmira about Breithamariel, sending him into a deep depression.

[edit] Friends and Enemies

[edit] Friends

Agamaran has only one trusted friend known as Haydyn [[1]], though he does rally to the causes of the Free Peoples of Eriador. While he is a ranger to a certain extent, his past actions under a company of the Rangers of Esteldin have left him in a lesser light, though the Wardens of Annuminas consider him one of their kin.

[edit] Enemies

Agamaran considers anyone that would take advantage of the well-fare, well-being, and well-doing of the innocent or the Free Peoples as an immediate threat--one that needs to be sought out and questioned and then delivered with indiscriminate justice. While his true mission is to thwart the actions of Angmar and to battle the secrecy of their agents, he is not above seeking out thieves and brigands that would take advantage of the current situation in Eriador.

[edit] Gossip

The recent return of Agamaran from being in hiding for months has caused much commotion with those he once called friends. The Lady-Elf Anthea and those that she considers allies have not forgotten the allegations against Agamaran, which detailed that he was behind the attempted kidnapping of Anthea and the supposed death of Haydyn. While he has made no attempt to amend the situation, he knows that the true culprit behind the allegations has been dealt with. As such, many still look upon him with suspicion.
