Description
Physical Description: Jael bears an inherent beauty that comes naturally with her kind. Her eyes are a striking blue and she moves very gracefully, even when fighting or making haste. She bears one characteristic that differs her from her Mirkwood kin; her shorn hair which she cut after having fled West, though during her year of interactions with the Rangers in Eriador and the Elves of Rivendell, it has begun to grow back. She prefers Elven-garb over any clothing designed by or for the Race of Men.
Personality Description: It is very easy to label Jael as 'fragile'. She tends to listen much, speak only when she must, and take action when she needs to. She can be forthright if she needs to be, but is generally demure. There is a soothing quality to her low, soft voice that has aided her in calming both patients and prisoners. With her trade of scholastic studies has come both wisdom and intelligence, and her skin has toughened somewhat during her time aiding the Dunedain Rangers.
Accent: Could be likened to low, soft British. She is very gentle of speech no matter what language she is speaking.
Bio
Jael was the type of Elf Maiden every parent would be proud to call their daughter... Beautiful, intelligent, and gentle. It was very early she began apprenticing in the studies of lore, languages, history, medicine, and care for nature. She was raised with all the qualities a good Elf should have, including a healthy wariness of Dwarves...
It was near the end of her apprenticeship that she showed the first sign of truly unusual behavior. She took in a small raven whom she named Armellon, and trained him to be her companion... However, whether it was Jael's manipulations or just an odd imprinting on the raven's end, the creature seemed convinced it was a flying dog. It would pant, mock bark, and even lift its leg when it would relieve itself. Jael found the creature charming and his antics amusing, but her parents and teachers saw it as a sign of concern.
For almost as long as he'd known her, Jael had been the object of affection to a well-respected hunter of the Mirkwood Elves named Thirhad. She had courteously avoided any affirmations of his passions, but her parents had long known of Thirhad's love for her. Upon sign of Jael's unusual behavior with the raven, her parents began encouraging Thirhad to approach her about marriage. This he did, and she did not have the heart to refuse him, only believing somehow she would learn to love him as he did her. It seemed a good match, but when her wedding day arrived, Jael could not bring herself to go through with it... There were too many places she wished to see, too many things going on in the ever-changing world she felt she was missing a key purpose within. She cut her long hair and fled into the West, traveling far and wide throughout Middle-Earth until she came to Eriador.
It was after many years of wandering and studies that she came upon the Dunedain Rangers... and found a purpose indeed. She had aided them off an on with a number of tasks ranging from tracking to working as a messenger. She has cared for several of the Rangers during times of injury, and has also guarded prisoners. She was one of the few who took pity on the burglar, Jaco, during his time in the captivity of the Rangers, and also cared for the naive Lore-Master Victor after he helped Jarys of Harad escape Esteldin. Because of her gentle nature, she is often not included in many of the dangerous tasks the Rangers must embark on, and this is a continual factor of annoyance to Jael, though she rarely has the heart to challenge it.
RP Fodder
- 10/11/08: Jael's most recent assignment with The Green Company has been acting as a messenger and liason between the individual Rangers during their scouting assignments across Eriador. While she did not get an assignment of her own, it has been refreshing to have been entrusted with the responsbility, and she has seen a great deal of the land that she hadn't seen before during this time. She also recently aided Mihangel of Dale in the tracking of a mysterious individual (an Elf their deductions suggested) who was spying on the halls of the Rangers.
Friends and Enemies
Friends:
- Scorric of Rohan: Scorric and Jael became friends during the time she had to care for him after he was rescued from the captivity of Orcs. A difficult patient, Jael often had to deal with him as a mother does with a rebellious child, but they grew close nonetheless.
- Aminth and Amonthir of Lorien: While she has never had the opportunity to get especially close to the pair, Jael has had generally good interactions with both Aminth and her brother. This relationship started off a bit rocky, during a time when Aminth truly seemed to want nothing to do with Elves or Men, but through trials they have come to generally good terms, and confided in eachother from time to time during Ardra's recovery.
- Mihangel of Dale: Mihangel took interest in the activities of the Green Company shortly after the rescue of Ardra. A hunter of Dale, he had acted as a long-time ally of the Grey Company, and his skill has been of substantial aid to the Rangers many times. After meeting Ardra, he took it upon himself to aid Avadrin of Rohan in overseeing the Captain's recovery, and has acted as her bodyguard several times (to the point of locking Ardra in the kinhall if she tries to ride off alone). It was because of this Jael had the opportunity to meet Mihangel, and the man tends to trip over his words a great deal around the Elf maiden. She's aided him with tracking down several quarry, and they have become friends in recent months.
Trivia
- Jael spends a great deal of time with animals, and while she can't truly 'speak' with them, she does communicate with them quite well. Armellon is her raven, and has been a companion of hers since her time in Mirkwood. Sadron is a bear that Jael found injured in the Chetwood. Using her skill with nature and healing, she helped the creature recover and at times it has shown up to come to her aid, rather like a faithful pet though it is still a wild creature. After Aminth's departure, Jael also took into her care Aminth's favorite cat, Wink... who had been 'borrowed' by Jaco before his own capture (Aminth had like 50 cats during this time), thus causing the cat to often show 'burglar-like' qualities. Wink has become another frequent companion of Jael during her journeys.
- While not a doctor, she has gained a great deal of skill with healing during her time with the Rangers and the Elves of Rivendell.
- One reason she has been labeled as 'fragile' by many of her kinsmen is that Jael has often been prone to 'grief-spouts' where a site or happening will cause her such great grief, it nearly causes her to swoon. She has gotten better about this, but it has not helped build the Rangers confidence that she could face great danger.
