[edit] Description
Physical Description: Barandil is a tall Man, weatherbeaten and hardy-looking like most Rangers. He has keen eyes, black hair, and a short beard. He is usually seen cloaked and hooded, preferring drab clothing -- the better to hide and avoid attention. He is now entering middle age but is still lean and hale. His most striking feature is a deep scar across his right eye (the result of a wolf-scratch some years ago), whence the derogatory nickname "Scar-eye" as the folk of Bree and Trestlebridge call him.
Personality Description: For the most part quiet and dour, Barandil speaks plainly whenever he has something to say. A jest from him is exceedingly rare; though he does enjoy, when possible, a smoke and a warm bed beneath a roof. He is, like most Rangers, secretive and slow to trust, always alert for spies and eavesdroppers. Being a specialist in the North-kingdom's history, he is well-versed in ancient lore, and can speak in the Elvish tongues.
[edit] Bio
Barandil is a Ranger of the North, though sadly not one in whom the blood of Númenor runs true. However, his love of the North and his allegiance to its exiled King is none the less. He was raised in various Ranger camps throughout Eriador, quickly proving himself an able student of lore and history.
Barandil is a master at hiding, moving quietly, and generally finding things out. He often frequents the ancient ruins of the North, which he knows like the back of his hand, in search of old fragments of lore and to spy on the movements of the Enemy's servants. For this reason, the settled folk of Eriador mostly distrust him (as they do all Rangers), and assume "Scar-eye" to be nothing more than a thief and grave-robber.
Inspired by a recent stay in the house of Elrond, Barandil has begun learning the craft of weapon-smithing. Though his skill is yet meager, the smiths of Rivendell are delighted to teach him whenever he visits.
[edit] Friends and Enemies
[edit] Friends:
- As a Ranger, Barandil is of course well acquainted with other Rangers, and their friends are also his. He is on good terms with the Elves, and has met Gandalf once or twice.
- Is a member of the semi-secret fellowship The Mithril Circle, an affiliation of well-meaning folk of all types from across Eriador.
[edit] Enemies:
- All servants of the Enemy are his foes.
- The townspeople of Bree and Trestlebridge scorn Barandil, tolerating him at best -- except for those individuals who have received help from him. Barandil rarely visits large towns and never stays long.
[edit] Current Whereabouts
- With the Ringbearer safe in Rivendell, Barandil has now turned his attention to Angmar, and can be found among his Ranger brethren in Esteldin and Tinnudir. Barandil's horse Ascaro is currently stabled in Tinnudir. At times, Barandil can also be spotted in Rivendell, for he visits periodically, both to rest and to undertake errands for his chieftain, Aragorn.
