Description

Physical Description: Hiril is tall, deep-chested and powerfully built, the very model of a Gondorian army hero. His thick black hair falls to his shoulders, and his voice booms.

Bio

Hiril is a soldier of Gondor, an exceptionally strong man from the fief of Lamedon. He served under Captain Boromir for a time, but was later recalled to Minas Tirith when it was deemed necessary to reinforce the garrison there. This probably saved his life; for soon afterwards Boromir and his men were reassigned to Osgiliath, where in the defense against Mordor's advance most were slain. Nonetheless Hiril regrets being denied the opportunity to have fought in that skirmish (he admires Boromir deeply, being a man of arms like the Captain himself).

Three months ago, Boromir rode from Minas Tirith to learn the meaning of his prophetic dream-message. He departed alone, as he had wished, though the Lord Denethor and many others felt it an unwise choice. Thus, when Hiril begged leave to try to follow Boromir and, if he should catch up with him, to assist him, his request was granted.

But Hiril found the journey into the North slow and hard. The lands beyond the Gap of Rohan were becoming hazardous, as the men of Dunland were now arming for war against the Mark. Nonetheless, his exceptional endurance brought him at last safely to the vicinity of Bree-land. But a mere twenty miles from the town, he was ambushed and captured by the Blackwold brigands. So marked Hiril's unexpected entry into the struggle between Angmar and the free folk of the North.
